Top 15 Most Powerful Female Characters in Marvel and DC

When it comes to comics, it's quite obvious that men reign supreme. Nevertheless, due to recent times, more women and female characters have been incorporated into the pages of Marvel and DC comics and today, I'm going to rank the most powerful.
For this list, we're going to be ranking each female character in marvel and DC comics based on the average amount of power they usually display. We are not going to rank them based on their powers at their peak because no one in comics usually stay longer at their best.
Also, there are so many very powerful female characters out there and each of them is quite mighty in their own right. We are only going to talk about the top 15 most powerful, so don't be bummed out if you don't see your favourite female characters like Batwoman, Oracle, Black Widow or even Captain Marvel . And, don't be mad if you see that there are more DC female characters than that of Marvel. It's simply because marvel has more powerful women. You are also going to see some lesser known characters so please keep an open mind. With all that out of the way, let's get on with the list.

15. Wonder Woman/Diana Prince -- DC
Doesn't it just feel so natural to start this list with the first female heroine from comics? She is an Amazon, born to the queen of the Amazon, Hippolyta. Her name is Wonder Woman, tbe goddess of truth and war. Ever since her birth, she has been trained as a warrior. She is the poster child for female characters in Marvel and DC comics and with her first movie in 2017 and the second one coming in 2020, she is guaranteed to gather a lot more fans.
Diana has a long history, over the years, she has stood alongside the world's greatest heroes not just as one-third of DC's most popular trinity, but also as a very powerful goddess on her own. She has gone toe-to-toe with Superman and even almost defeated him in most cases. Batman even said the only way they could defeat her, if she ever went rogue was if, and only if, Superman was not holding back against her. Even if he was, it would be a difficult time due to her extreme fighting skills. Most people even consider her the most powerful female character in DC, but I think not. Nevertheless, she can easily defeat any of the following people who I am going to mention later on.

14. Reign -- DC
Have you ever asked, what if Doomsday was a woman? The answer would be Reign. She is one of the five genetically altered aliens of Krypton bestowed great power by Kryptonian science to become worldkillers. And yes, one of those aliens is the infamous Supermen foe, Doomsday.
Since Reign was genetically altered to be a weapon of mass destruction, her powers can put any kryptonian to shame. Apart from her superhuman speed, strength, stamina, durability and flight, she is also an experienced combatant in both hand-to-hand and sword fight. Imagine a kryptonian with the fighting capabilities of an Asgardian and the ruthlessness of Doomsday, yikes!

13. Storm/Ororo Monroe -- Marvel
Storm is one of the most popular and powerful omega mutants out there. She was born and raised on the streets of Cairo in Egypt. She became a member of the X-Men when her powers began to develop making her the goddess of the weather we all know and love today.
Saying Storm has the ability to control the weather is quite an understatement. Her power allows her to perceive the world in terms of energy and uses this to observe weather patterns and even the signals of neurons in a brain. She says she can rip the air from your lungs, give you a seizure, or freeze your heart and trust me, it's true. There was a time when she was being manipulated, -- which would mean she was probably holding back -- she had recreated the same time of primal storm that had shaped the face of the Earth we know today millions of years ago.

12. Zatanna Zatara -- DC
Zatanna, is the daughter of Sindella, a homo Magi (humans with magical abilities) and famed stage magician, Giovanni "John" Zatara. Her father is a descendant of great artists of the olden times like Leonardo Da Vinci and more. Due to her parental heritage, Zatanna is one of the most powerful magicians -- if not the most powerful magician -- on DC's prime Earth.
Zatanna can cast any spell simply by saying whatever she wants to happen backwards. Initially, she could only control the four elements (fire, wind, water and earth) and perform simple magic tricks typical the average magician. But she layer admitted to being unfocused during that time in her life. Now, she can manipulate reality, space and time. She sometimes doesn't even need to say the spell forgot to occur. Now that is the uncanny effect of concentration.

11. Cassandra Nova -- Marvel
Probably one of the most obscure characters on this list, Cassandra is a mummudrai, which is a psychuc parasite, without a form, that used to live within Charles Xavier,.making her his twin sister. She had copied the form of Charles Xavier of the X-Men, which would make her bald.
Being a mummudrai, Cassandra can copy the DNA of sentient beings and use it to creatr a body for herself. She had also copied Xavier's entire powerset, which includes powers he already has and those he would have if  not holding back. Cassandra is so powerful that she had defeated the entire X-Men alone, beaten the Imperial Guard and broken out of a gravitational bottle which held the Juggernaut. She is basically Charles Xavier, every power and ability unleashed.

10. Thor/Jane Foster -- Marvel
When Thor Odinson was deemed unworthy to wield the hammer, Mjolnir, it was picked up by his long-time love interest, Jane Foster, to become the new Thor. Unfortunately though, the transformation into Thor was suppressing the chemotherapy she was undergoing for her cancer at the time. Nevertheless, Jane recognised the need for a Thor and said it is a worthy sacrifice.
With the power of Thor, Jane has become even faster than Odinson was back then. On her first day as Thor, a fight between her and the old Thor ends inconclusively, despite the fact that she was highly inexperienced. Later on, she fought with Odin himself and the two seemed evenly matched until Jane received some help and Odin left the fight.

9. Grail -- DC
So get this; Grail is the daughter of an Amazon named Myrina Black and Darkseid. She is the full package, part-amazon and part-new god. She has the skills and combat prowess of a typical Amazon as well as the overly enhanced, if not perfect physiology of a new god. Plus being the daughter of the powerful interdimensional being, Darkseid has its own perks too.
Grail's Omega Beams is strong enough to destroy Wonder Woman's bracelets. This is impressive because neither Supergirl's, Superman's, or her own father Darkseid's Heat Vision/Omega Beams could break Wonder Woman's bracelets. She even has the ability to manipulate energy as well as to perform various amazon rituals. She is so skilled that she had beat Batman one-on-one leaving him greatly injured with her axe.

8. Cythonna -- DC
Cythonna is one of the first gods of Krypton. She's known as the goddess of ice as she ruled the frozen and darker parts of Krypton with the sole aim of mating with a being of light in order to borne monstrous beings which would rid the world of light and everything bright. He first choice for a mate was Rao but he declined seeing how much hate she had and exiled her.
After the destruction of Krypton, her  last resort for a mate was Superman. Superman also declined and this led to an ultimate battle where she dominated the blue boy scout. It was not until Lex Luthor stepped in before they could defeat her. Her powers also include telepathy, superhuman agility, metamorphosis, immortality, self sustenance and good ol' omnipotence.

7. America Chavez/Miss America  -- Marvel
America was raised in a Utopian parallel dimension out of time by two mothers. When she was 6 six years old, her parents sacrificed themselves in order to save their universe from collapsing. Following in their footsteps, America decided to leave her home world to our world since there is nothing to save or protect in a Utopian dimension.
America is the power to travel across various dimensions by creating a portal shaped as a star and breaking it through a kick. She even once created a hole in space by dancing. Those must have been some pretty nice moves. Apart from that, she has punched a creature with a black hole for a face. This would mean that her punches are stronger than that of a black hole.

6. Hela -- Marvel
Hela, also known as Hel, Holle or Hulda, was the Norse and Teutonic Goddess, Queen and Ruler of the Underworld, which was known as Niflheim, or Helheim, the Kingdom of the Dead. Basically, she is the goddess of the dead. Not the goddess of death though, that is a totally different character.
Have you ever heard that you can't escape from death? Hela puts this on a whole new level by commanding all ''Space and Time'', making it virtually impossible to escape her grasp. She has enough power to even prevent Odin from dying. She has defeated Thor, the master ruler of Hell, Mephisto, Loki and Amora the Enchantress. She even seemed to be even with the allfather Odin.

5. Squirrel Girl / Doreen Green -- Marvel
All Hail the unbeatable squirrel girl! The only marvel character who can claim to have one of the silliest powers and still manage to have the most impressive track record. She can talk and communicate with squirrels. But here's wher thing get weird.
Off screen, and this is canon, Doreen has defeated the Avengers twice (second time was onscreen), Doctor Doom (twice on screen), Thanos, the Mandarin, Giganto, Doom, Korvac, Ego, Baron Mordo, and Fin Fang Foom. She is worthy to lift Mjolnir.

4. Jean Grey / Dark Phoenix -- Marvel
No matter what version of Jean we are talking about, whether as Marvel girl or as the dark Phoenix, She is a force to be reckoned with. Jean Grey is the most powerful psychic in the world and the host of the Phoenix. She's the original wife of Cyclops and one of the original X-Men members, known for always coming back to life.
She has the most powerful telekinetic and telepathic abilities and being an omega level mutant, Jean is quite powerful. She has also once destroyed an entire civilization when imbued with the powers of the Dark Phoenix.

3. Scarlet Witch/ Wanda Maximoff -- Marvel
Wanda And Pietro Maximoff were initially one of the villains of the Avengers until they turned good and became outstanding members of the X-Men and the Avengers. She has the mutant ability to alter probability and reality with chaos magic. Wanda is an extremely sweet and loving person, although a little unstable due to the chaotic and powerful nature of her powers.
Wanda can warp reality to anything she wills it. She has once removed 99.9% of the mutant population  by simply saying three words -- and it's not I love you -- "no more mutants". She didn't need to perform any ritual or gather any weapon. All she had to do was say it. She also made the event the led to the House of M storyline. Even Tony Stark said that Wanda causes the Pheonix Force to take a dip in power.

2. Amethyst/ Amy Winston -- DC
You've probably never heard of her, but Amy is a really cool character. It's a shame that she has not showed up after the New-52 and Rebirth relaunch of DC's characters. She is the princess of an alternate dimension known as Gemworld.
She was taken from her family during her birth to protect her from warring armies. When she was 13, she returned to her throne and after many adventures, became the new Lord of order. As for her powers, she defeated  the spectre. The spectre is God's tool to deal out justice on the world. Thus, whenever he fights he is imbued with enough power to defeat the enemy but Amethyst defeated him.

Honourable Mentions
Before I reveal the no. 1, I would like to pay homage to female characters whom I think deserve respect but are not on this list. They include;
  • Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers

Raven

• Ms. Marvel

• SuperGirl

• Black Widow

• Batwoman

1. Nemesis -- Marvel
You must have probably heard of the infinity stones. Now imagine they were a sentient being. That being would be Nemesis. She is every thing the gems are plus a little bit more. She  was the infinity gems beforeshe got tired of being so powerful and split into 6 gems which would bring a lot of destruction in the hands of Thanos later on.
We were thought to believe that there were only 6 infinity gems. But with the emergence of Nemesis, it was revealed that there is a seventh infinity gem. Looking at the amount of entities Thanos used the infinity gauntlet to defeat. I think it's safe to say Nemesis is the most powerful female character in both DC and Marvel.

And that's my list. Were you bummed out that some of your favourite female characters didn't show up here? Do you think anyone doesn't deserve to be here? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for reading.
