2018 was a great year. It didn't just give us an awesome 365 days, it gave us the first black superhero movie, the first half of the conclusion to a 10-year and 18-movie plot, the best Spider-Man movie, the best DCEU movie, two long-awaited sequels and overall the very good comic book adaptations we had desired for our favourite characters. In honour of the new year, we are going to show you a list we had created to show you how good we thought the movies were.
14. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies
This is a feature length film bases on the popular Cartoon Network series, Teen Titans Go! This is a very fun light-hearted movie which stood well with critics as well as audience. Well, at least, the younger audience. I personally didn't like the story plot. They wanted to be treated like real heroes so they did the very opposite thing real heroes would do and yet they still got a what they wanted without any consequences or lessons learnt. Nevertheless, the movie was quite fun to watch with really nice jokes that will seat well with both the young and old audience. It even has a 90+% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. 13. Batman Ninja
I know, I know, just another Batman animated movie. But wait a second, there's a twist. A bulk of the movie takes place in ancient Japan. It features Batman and all the Robins as well as Joker and a plethora of Batman villains in a Japanese setting. It showed us Batman like we never know him - in Anime style. With a fairly good plot and epic anime visuals, it really deserves a watch.
It made 3.5 million dollars in the box office. It even had an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes although, IMDb gave it a fair rating of 5.6/10. Eitherway, it is a really good movie that shows us Batman and all his glory in a completely different environment. I mean, look at his costume.

12. Ant-Man and the Wasp
Avengers: Infinity War is a tough movie to follow up. It is no surprise that Ant-Man and the Wasp didn't make it higher up in the list. Nevertheless, it had answered one of the popular questions Avengers: Infinity War had left us with; why wasn't Ant-Man in the movie. We were shown the crazy antics Ant-Man was up to during the events of Infinity War. It also featured the first MCU female character in a Movie title. About time, if you ask me.
Even though it didn't get much as much hype as Avengers: Infinity War, it made a stunning 622.6 million dollars in the Box Office. It even got an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.5/10 on IMBd. If you add them up, you will find out that it got more that Avengers: Infinity War. Now that's something to be very proud of.
11. Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors
This is definitely one of the best animated I think Marvel has ever made. It introduced us to Marvel's teenage heroes like Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Ghost Spider, Ms. America, Guardian, Inferno, Guardian, and a few more. It also featured LockJaw, the Inhuman dog and Captain Marvel for the most part of the movie. Even Captain America made a cameo appearance at the end of the movie. (Not Chris Evans though).
Following the supposed tradition of most Marvel's animated movies, it didn't make much money or even get much fame as expected as it is highly underrated. This movie definitely deserves a watch as you may have probably not watched it yet.
10. Batman: Gotham By Gaslight
Just like the Batman Ninja movie, Batman: Gotham By Gaslight showed us Batman in a setting different from what we usually see him. We get to see him in universe quite different from the one we would expect to see him in. It features Batman and his supporting characters such as Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon (As Commissioner Gordon's wife which is very weird), Jason Todd, Catwoman, Harvey Dent and other basic residents of Gotham city in a steam punk era of America.
The movie made a total of 3.468 million dollars. It has a 6.8/10 on IMBd and got an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you are really into alternate versions of comic book characters, then you really should watch this movie to see Bruce Wayne begin his journey as the Caped Crusader in a steam punk era of Gotham city.
9. The Incredibles 2
After more than a decade, we finally got the sequel to the popular and fan-favourite Pixar animated superhero movie, The Incredibles. It started off from where the last movie left off and (although some fabs may not agree with this) it didn't disappoint. I think it is just as good as the first one. Even though you would expect it to be better, it alright.
Considering how much time it took Pixar to make its sequel, the hype was immeasurable. Nevertheless, it made a large 1.2 billion dollars in the box office. Now that's a lot of money.
8. Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay
Another addition to the DC Animated Movie Universe, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay gives us a better look at the DC's fan-favourite team, better than what the live-action movie of 2016, Suicide Squad had terribly failed to give us. It follows a few unknown members of the Suicide Squad like Copperhead, Bronze Tiger and Killer Frost as well as the more popular members such as DeadShot and Harley Quinn in a race against other DC villains to get a very special card.
It gave us a plethora of DC villains and it didn't need any of DC's more popular heroes to make it as great a movie as it was. It is one of the best movies of the DCAMU as it got a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 7 out of 10 on IMBd and made a total of 3.112 million dollars.
7. The Death Of Superman
Another animated comic book adaptation to add to the roster of the DCAMU, The Death of Superman really captured the essence of the iconic death of Superman in the comics. If you ignore the fact that he would probably return very soon (probably in the Reign of the Supermen movie) in another movie just like he did in the comics, it is a really heartfelt movie as it shows us how Superman's sacrifice affected the characters of the DCAMU.
The movie got an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, 7.6 out of 10 on IMBd and made of total of 4.220 million dollars. That is one of the highest amounts of money any of the movies of the DCAMU has made and it definitely deserves it.
6. Venom
When Sony saw how good the MCU was retreating their poster boy hero, Spider-Man, they decided to cash in on the more popular Spider-Man villains and it definitely did not disappoint both the fans and even Sony. Venom gave us an awesome look at the Kly-Tar (not sure I'm spelling that right) anti-hero origin story without even a mention of Spider-Man in the movie.
Even though the movie was lover by many fans, the critics deemed it unworthy of its awesomeness. It got a 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.9 out of 10 on IMBd. Nevertheless, it made a stunning 506.8 million dollars in the Box Office.
5. Deadpool 2
As stated earlier, in 2018, we got two sequels to long-awaited movies. One of them was talked about earlier (the incredibles 2) and the other (the better one) is the sequel to the R-rated movie, Deadpool 2. Basically, this movie is just a parody of the last one. Although, it introduces a new plot as well as interesting new characters to the franchise.
It made 734.2 million dollars in the box office, a few thousand dollars almost as much as the first movie made - 783.1 million dollars. It also got a stunning 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.3 out of 10 on IMBd. Also almost as much as the first movie got.
4. Aquaman
As at the time of writing this post, the movie has made over a whooping 800 million dollars and is on it's way to make up to a billion dollars on the box office, despite the fact that it got a 7.6 out of 10 on IMBd and a rating of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes.
3. Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse
On early December, one of the best Spider-Man movies was released. The movie has one of the best visuals ever seen on any animated movie. Watching the movie is just like reading a comic book. It features Miles Morales and Peter Parker as the main character and other Spider-Men/Women from alternate universes.
Unfortunately, it did not make as much money as a movie of its calibre is supposed to make. Although, it was liked by the critics as it got 8.8 out of 10 on IMBd and an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
2. Avengers: Infinity War
This is the biggest hit of the year, 2018. What took dozens of A-list stars, 18 prior films, and nearly $400 million to create earned over $2 billion worldwide even though it is just the first half of the conclusion a ten-year long story. Let that sink in.The movie follows the mad titan, Thanos on his quest to obtain the six infinity stones and vanquish half of the universe's population.
Even though the movie made this much money, it is only a sequel to the upcoming MCU movie, Avengers: Endgame. This is when we will find out what will happen to our favourite heroes in the MCU. We just hope the movie can live up to the hype created by the first one. Just kidding! We know it will be as good or even better than Avengers: Infinity War.
1. Black Panther
This might be because I'm black and such, but I think this is the best superhero movie ever made. Not only is it the first black superhero movie ever made (well, if you want to ignore Meteor Man and the movies of the Blade trilogy), it is also one of the best superhero movies that would be ever made. Even the president of Marvel studios, Kevin Fiege, has said that it is the best movie they have ever made.
It made a whooping 1.3 billion dollars on the box office and got a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.4 out of 10 on IMBd. This is the best rating a Marvel live-action movie has ever gotten on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie even made more money than Avengers: Infinity War domestically.
In conclusion, 2018 was a great year for superhero movies as almost every movie was a smash hit. Forget every bad thing In have said about any of the movies above and just know that, every single movie up there is as awesome as possible.
